Time to Pretend
MGMT
I remember being a teen watching the this song's music video and being amazed by its psychedelic visuals. It was as if the video editor decided to use every single effect available in their editing software.
The build up at the start hooked me up instantly.

I'd Rather Dance With You
Kings of Convenience
I was organising a weekend-long hackathon back in 2015. At around 2 AM, I went for a nap and accidentally left this album playing on repeat while I slept. These songs were imprinted in my brain for weeks after that.
Teardrop
Massive Attack
The heart-like beat of this song fills the room whenever it is played. It's known as the opening theme of House. I guess I've never put these two pieces of information together until just now…
Such Great Heights
The Postal Service
I was a kid wandering on the Internet when I opened a website that had this song as its background music (that was a thing back then). I have absolutely no recollection of what the website was about, but the song stuck in my head. That riff is so satisfying!
Mind Mischief
Tame Impala
Listening to Tame Impala always brings me back to my time in university. My friends and I would put it on while studying or working together. I haven't stopped listening to it since then!
Eple
Röyksopp
You might recognise this one as the welcome song when installing Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, back when this was a thing! For sure one of the many Röyksopp songs that will appear in this list.
Our Mutual Friend
The Divine Comedy
Can't remember exactly what I was doing when this song first popped in my recommendations, but it caught my attention — listening to it is almost like watching a soap opera.
Elements
Lemon Jelly
If you are a fan of long songs that keep building on top of themselves, you're in for a ride.
Alive
Midnight Generation
This funky vibe scratches my brain in a way that is hard to describe.
Go!
Public Service Broadcasting
This song introduced me to Public Service Broadcasting, a band that uses recordings from documentaries, films and other historical media to make music. I was in a van, on the way to the beach and my friend put it on. I've been a fan and have been following their work ever since. Each of their albums is great in its own way, and this is the one that started it all for me. This is also a fun song to play when in a flight while landing!
Cherry Blossom Girl
Air
Spotify recommended this song to me when I was alone in my university accommodation. I've known Air from before, but this song made me rediscover them. Since that moment, their music has been a big part of my life.
Veridis Quo
Daft Punk
I used to listen to this song in a loop as a kid. To this day, it helps me tune out when I need to. The whole album is a masterpiece, and I'm sure it will come up here again soon. Can't think of a better choice to start this series.
